History of Miriam
Miriam is St. Louis’ oldest and most comprehensive resource for children with complex learning disabilities. Its three programs, Miriam School, Miriam Learning Center and Miriam Academy, annually serve more than 1,000 St. Louis-area students.
Fundamental to this work is Miriam’s commitment to developing personalized learning, building supportive communities and fostering a life-long love of learning among students with complex learning disabilities. Miriam aims to identify needs and provide solutions that help students who are struggling in school unlock their potential.
Miriam School started 60 years ago serving elementary students, and has since grown to include a middle school. Miriam Learning Center opened in 2007 to provide specialized services to kids with learning disabilities in other school districts and to offer a robust after school program.
After much research and consideration, in January 2016, Miriam’s Board of Directors voted in favor of creating a high school. Miriam Academy began with an inaugural 9th grade class in the fall of 2016 and is now enrolling 9th through 12th grade students for the fall of 2018.
