WHY MIRIAM ACADEMY?
Miriam’s Board of Directors had long heard from parents about the need for a St. Louis-area high school to serve students with learning disabilities. After much research and consideration, the board voted in favor of creating Miriam Academy. The school began with an inaugural 9th grade class of 17 students in the fall of 2016, and continues to enroll students in 9th-12th grades in the 2018-19 School year. Currently we have Approx. 50 students.
WHERE IS MIRIAM ACADEMY LOCATED?
Miriam Academy is located at 2845 N. Ballas Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63131, in the Parkway United Church of Christ education building.
HOW MUCH IS TUITION AT MIRIAM ACADEMY?
At Miriam Academy, we are committed to granting access to our programs for students who are a match for our school. In fact, no student at Miriam pays 100% of the cost of education. Miriam offers a program that grants access to a high quality education to these families. This program is Variable Tuition.
Variable Tuition is just that: variable. The tuition at Miriam School and Academy is not “one size fits all.” Rather, we match your tuition rate to your family’s unique financial position. Learn more about variable tuition here.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE CLASS SIZE AT MIRIAM?
We have class sizes of 3 – 12 students depending on the needs of the students. Our ratio of staff to student is 1:4. .
IS THERE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS TO TRANSFER TO MIRIAM MID-YEAR?
We are committed to serving all of our students with great integrity and selecting the right fit for each student, while maintaining our small student/teacher ratio. ARE MIRIAM SCHOOL ALUMNI AUTOMATICALLY ADMITTED TO MIRIAM ACADEMY?
All interested Miriam School families are required to submit an application to Miriam Academy. We continue to work closely with all our Miriam School 8th grade families to help them find the best fit for their student’s high school education. For some Miriam School graduates, Miriam Academy will offer the ideal high school option, but other Miriam School graduates may seek out different settings for high school.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE TO ATTEND MIRIAM ACADEMY?
Miriam Academy provides a learning environment designed to support the education, development, and college or career readiness needs of adolescent students who demonstrate multi-faceted learning challenges.
Miriam Academy students are curious and goal-oriented, with the cognitive skills to access high school curriculum and consider college and careers upon graduation. They are eager, hard-working students who benefit from a personalized learning approach that builds on their strengths, interests, and readiness.
WHAT DOES THE CURRICULUM INCLUDE?
Miriam Academy offers a full 24-credit high school diploma. Each student is issued a laptop to use at school and home throughout the year.
Faculty provides a personalized educational experience for high school students that includes differentiated instruction and curriculum modifications to accommodate varied learning styles. Tailored opportunities, such as internships and in-class experiences, incorporate students’ needs for both college and career readiness following graduation.
Each student has an individualized education plan (IEP), with occupational, counseling, speech and language therapy available. Over time, our students will have access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses, a variety of electives, and for-credit internships like their peers in other comprehensive high schools.
HOW DOES MIRIAM ACADEMY COMPARE ACADEMICALLY TO OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS?
Miriam Academy is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- We are working with the Department of Education and local universities to ensure the curriculum meets all requirements for students to advance to two- and four-year college programs.
- We have students attend Missouri Scholars Summer program.
- Our students have taken the ACT, with scores of a 24 pt. range from 35 to the teens.
- We have an National Honor Society chapter.
ARE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OFFERED?
Miriam Academy is committed to providing students with not only a quality education, but also a fulfilling high school experience. Miriam Academy builds on the foundation of self-advocacy. Miriam Academy students have established sports and afterschool clubs with the guidance of a faculty advisor. Additionally, staff work with other schools and community partners to offer enrichment and extracurricular activities. These opportunities are shaped by students’ needs and preferences, and will continue to increase as additional grade levels are added to the school.
